Solution

Websites that offer „business online services“ need an imprint in Germany and many other EU countries. Private homepages that display advertisements or have sponsors or earn money from other sources or could possibly earn money need an imprint, too. In general one can say: Better add an imprint to your website, because else you will most likely warned by lawyers (an incredibly expensive act as you have to pay their fees for it).

The imprint must include, but is not limited to these data:

  • First and last name of the website owner or legal entity
  • Address of residency, a street address, no mailbox address
  • First and last name of the legal / authorized representative, e.g. chief executive officer
  • Contact opportunity by e-mail address (a contact form does not do it)
  • Contact opportunity by phone and fax
  • For legal entities and clubs: Name and location of the trade, club, partnership or cooperative register/court and the ID of your file
  • If the offer is subject to regulatory approval, you must also name all supervising authorities.
  • If you or your business have an EU VAT ID, this must be displayed, too.

This list may not be complete. We recommend to thoroughly learn and understand your obligations to publish an imprint on your website.
